Being crap isn't necessarily a disadvantage for a career in the back-slapping world of football management.

Poor old Barnsey's career was pretty much defined and peaked with the goal he scored against Brazil.

They are all spot on.

I think Liverpool should give John Barnes the managers job, and Spurs should give it to Les Ferdinand. Then Ian Wright at Arsenal to finish it off.

When this happens, I'll be having a cheeky tenner on us to finish in the top 4.

To be fair, there are plenty of white managers who have messed up the jobs they've had and still get more jobs.

So he might have a point. I suspect the truth is somewhere in between.

I read the other day that Ferdinand when at spurs couldn't be bothered to do the extra hours that sherwood and the manager iof QPR did which is why they are managing and he isn't, and I still remember a black fella whose name escapes me moaning on one of the sports channels that he is never given a chance in management admitted he hadn't bothered to do his badges.

Whining about not getting a job because he's black, when asked if he'd done his coaching badges he said no, when asked why he says there's no point because he's black and won't get a job anyway.

Cant find it now but there was something in the Observer yesterday about Sol Campbell being invited to an FA function and getting up and asking why Gary Neville was being fast tracked and he wasn't and the FA person went through the badges etc and work that Neville was doing and was interrupted by Mr Campbell saying.
"Yes, BUT I AM SOL CAMPBELL"

Isn't it the same in the States with NFL and NBA having a high % of black players but low % of coaches?
And why do African nations keep employing white/European managers to run their national sides? Take a chance on a brother.

Had Sol in my workplace few months back and seemed a nice fella......

With regards to Barnes he should look at his CV and question why anyone would give him a job ?

No doubt he has been appying for league 1, 2 clubs rather then the non league which is probably his best bet

I saw the programme when Campbell said that, Griff. Spent half hour moaning about the lack of opportunities, when Rob Shephard said, innocently, 'so you've got your badges, and you're not getting the opportunity, he blatantly said 'No, what's the point?'

That is all you need to know about this. I'd be very, very interested to see who exactly are on these courses that football managers have to go on. I just flatly refuse to accept that if some of the big names in football who are black had done every course and excelled, they wouldn't be given a job. What it seems like to me, is they want their reputation alone to get them a big job straight away. So many ex-players have to start low down, I'm pretty sure if Sol Campbell done his badges, a Leauge 1 side would give him a chance.

Hughton, Ince, they've been given lots of jobs, Barnes had 3 jobs, one the Celtic gig where he failed badly, then Tranmere, where they were rock bottom throughout his time there.

Hasselbank is a great example, done his badges, and gets a job at a League 2 club, who are currently top. He'll get a better job soon. That's how it works.
